Brewers get Bob Uecker involved in playoff celebration: ‘I peed my pants’

Bob Uecker had a blast celebrating the Brewers' NL Central Division title.

I peed in my pants“The Brewers' famous radio announcer said that before being showered with champagne after Milwaukee clinched its second consecutive National League Central Division title on Wednesday.”

The Hall of Fame announcer played for the Brewers for two seasons, 1962-1963, before beginning play-by-play coverage of Brewers games in 1971.

It's hard to think of the Brewers without thinking of Uecker, which is why after Milwaukee became the first team to qualify for the postseason, manager Pat Murphy made sure to include Uecker in the fun.

Milwaukee had actually wrapped up the game before beating the Phillies 2-1, and the Cubs' afternoon loss clinched the Brewers their third division title in four years.

As players waited inside the home clubhouse at American Family Field on Wednesday for the celebration to begin, Murphy called Uecker to his right and honored him with a speech.

As Uecker, best known for playing Harry Doyle on “Major League,” took center stage, players yelled “Yuck!”

“Nobody embodies the epitome of a champion more than this guy,” Murphy told MLB.com. “Bob Uecker is an example for us to be around every day. An unquestionable champion.”

After Uecker and Murphy shared a light alcohol shower, Uecker admitted to peeing in his pants, and then one of the players leaned over to give Uecker a shower, leading Murphy to laugh about the improvised line, misquoting Uecker.

“I think I wet myself,” he said, laughing as he looked at Mr. Uecker.

With the division title clinched with 10 games remaining in the season, the Brewers are now just three games behind the top three teams in the National League standings.

The Phillies (91-61) are one game behind the Dodgers (90-62) for the National League's best record and the Brewers (88-64) will need a late-season rally to overtake.

Milwaukee won the NL Central division last year and was the third seed, but was swept in the wild-card round by the eventual NL champion Diamondbacks.

“Party until late at night how you like. Party until late at night.” Murphy said in the clubhouse. “And now you decide whether you believe there's a reason this group got to No. 1 from start to finish. Figure it out.”, he said, just before popping the champagne.
