A Florida man set out outdoors with a Louisville Slugger bat and some beer in an attempt to catch a suspected “peeping Tom” who had been plaguing his neighborhood for over a year.
Flagler County Member of Parliament A father says he caught a man trying to molest his 14-year-old daughter at his Palm Coast home.
“So my husband came in and said, 'Wow, surprise! [expletive]” and hit him with the bat.
The victim's mother told WESH-TV that she saw the man the day before her husband chased him.
“Our cat was getting a little restless so we peeked outside and saw a big shadow wearing bright white shoes. My husband got up and ran after it, but by the time we all gathered the cat had run all the way down the path,” the woman said.
Wanting to protect their daughter, her husband sat outside in a lawn chair with a bat and a drink, waiting to see if she would return.
His wife says he's back.
“Who would come back two nights in a row after being arrested? But he did,” she said. “He snuck around the house and came right up to my daughter's window.”
She said parts of the exchange were recorded on a neighbor's Ring doorbell camera.
“And he had his hands over his eyes and he was looking in. And my husband came in and said, 'Oh, wow. [expletive]”And I hit him with the bat. And he ran away,” she continued.
Monitoring The video is The man chased the alleged peeping tom and yelled for neighbours to call the police.
“Where are you going, boy!” the father yells in the video. “Come here! Come here! I've got something for you!”
Police identified the suspect as Damon Smith and were able to make an arrest. He was held on $86,000 bail on charges of loitering, voyeurism and aggravated stalking of a person under the age of 16. WESH reported that Smith was arrested when he was 18 for making a bomb threat at school.
Sheriff Rick Staley praised the father for protecting his family, saying he believes Smith fits the profile of someone who escalates his sexual predatory behavior.
