Nets sign Amari Bailey to Exhibit 10 deal as youth movement continues

The last time the Nets rebuilt, they did so by scouring faded prospects and redevelopment projects.

It looks like they're following the same plan this time around.

Brooklyn is moving forward with its youth movement with what is likely to be a year or two of rebuilding without any real pressure.

And the latest young player to join is Amari Bailey, who is set to join on an Exhibition 10 contract, a move first reported by Hoopshype and confirmed by The Post.

The 20-year-old guard is the third-youngest player on the Nets roster behind Darik Whitehead and Noah Clowney.

The three were among the 10 youngest players in the NBA last season and could play a variety of roles on the rookie Nets roster.

Clowney and Whitehead are both 2023 first-round draft picks and will be part of Brooklyn's rebuild, while Bailey will be in training camp next month looking to earn his place.

The former second-round draft pick appeared in just 10 games as a rookie with Charlotte last season, averaging 2.3 points in 6.5 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-3 guard is the prototype of a second-chance flyer that the Nets have gambled on in the past with varying success.

Picking up Spencer Dinwiddie and Joe Harris off the scrap heap was a home run, as was taking on under-appreciated D'Angelo Russell and turning him into an All-Star.

An attempt to sign former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett fell through.

Win or lose.

The Nets now have 23-year-old returning projects Killian Hayes and Zi'air Williams, the former an exhibition 10 and the latter a Memphis Grizzlies wing who reportedly performed well in summer workouts.

Bailey is the newest dart pitcher, an off-track high school phenom who Brooklyn hopes will get back on track.

The guard averaged 29.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists as a junior at Sierra Canyon High School and was named California Mr. Basketball.

Bailey was considered the No. 1 overall player by every recruiting service heading into the summer of his senior season, but injury caused him to miss the AAU circuit and part of the early part of the season.

ESPN ranked him fifth in the high school class of 2022, and he committed to UCLA, averaging 11.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in his lone collegiate season.

Further injuries slowed his development somewhat as a foot injury caused him to miss seven games from Dec. 30 to Jan. 26, 2023.

Since his return, Bailey has boosted his scoring to 17.3 points on 56.1 percent shooting while serving as the Warriors' best perimeter threat after top defender Jalen Clark suffered a season-ending injury in the regular-season finale.

However, he still fell to the second round of the draft.

Charlotte acquired Bayley 41st overall and signed her to a two-way contract.

He was barely used by the Hornets, instead spending most of the season with their Greensboro Swarm affiliate, averaging 19.3 points, 5 rebounds and 4.7 assists, but shooting a poor 20 percent from three-point range.

Hayes and Shake Milton are expected to compete for the point guard spot at the back of the Nets' roster, so the competition is expected to get tougher going forward.
