Illegal immigrant brothers arrested in Missouri in connection with deadly carjackings

Two brothers have been arrested in connection to a series of carjackings in Missouri, including one that ended in a fatality, authorities said.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office released a statement Thursday announcing the arrests of Adin Aman Cantarero Benitez, 26, and Jose Cantarero Benitez, 20.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, the two are illegal immigrants from Honduras.

Jasper County detectives received a call around 5:25 Monday evening reporting a man possibly deceased in a ditch on Interstate 44. The victim has been identified as Jesse Gilmore, 63, of Oklahoma.

Authorities say Gilmore was shot in the head after a brief conversation with Adin Aman Cantarero Benitez around 3:30 a.m. Monday. Adin then got into Gilmore's vehicle, a red Chevrolet Cobalt, met up with Jose Cantarero Benitez and drove eastbound, where Gilmore was dragged from the car and dumped in a ditch.

The brothers headed to Independence, Missouri, with one driving the victim's car and the other driving a blue Toyota Tundra pickup.

Adin was arrested for DUI around 10pm that night, and at the time police did not know of his connection to the Jasper County incident.

Police say 75% of people arrested in Midtown Manhattan are illegal immigrants.

Shortly after 5 p.m. the following day, the Independence Police Department received a call about a second suspect, Jose Cantarero Benitez, who had allegedly attempted to rob another vehicle and shot a woman in the chest.

Jose was arrested after a foot pursuit and the victim is reportedly in critical condition.
