A new study has found that up to 2.7 million foreigners could vote in the 2024 elections.
“According to the U.S. Census, there are more than 19 million adult foreign nationals living in the United States in 2022. Given their voter registration rates, this means that approximately 2 million to 5 million people are registered to vote illegally,” wrote the nonprofit research organization Just Facts.
A new study suggests that up to 2.7 million foreign nationals could vote in the 2024 election, raising concerns that future election results may not reflect the will of American citizens, who are the only people who can vote in federal elections.
“We find that approximately 10% to 27% of non-citizen adults in the U.S. are currently registered to vote illegally,” nonprofit research organization Just Facts said in a summary of its study.
“The U.S. Census records more than 19 million adult foreign nationals residing in the United States in 2022,” the report states. “Taking into account their voter registration rates, this translates to approximately 2 million to 5 million illegally registered to vote. These numbers could be high enough to subvert the will of the American people in key elections, including for Congress and the presidency.”
House Republicans are trying to solve this problem through the SAVE Act.
House Republicans have tried to address this issue by passing a number of border security and election integrity measures, including the Protecting American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act (HR 8281), which would require local election officials to verify U.S. citizenship before registering to vote. The bill passed the House in July.
“Court interpretations of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA) prohibit states from requiring documented proof of U.S. citizenship,” Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) said Tuesday on Fox Business' “Mornings with Maria.” “Democrats who vote against this are showing what they're really trying to do: They're trying to get foreigners to vote and rig our elections.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) has called the bill's passage a “generation-defining moment.” Johnson supports including the election integrity bill in a must-pass continuing resolution to keep the government funded after the fiscal year ends on September 30 and avoid a government shutdown. But Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has declared the bill dead once it reached the Senate.
