GM recalling nearly 450K SUVs, pickups over faulty warning light

General Motors is recalling more than 449,000 SUVs and pickup trucks because software in the electronic brake control module may not display a warning light in the event of a loss of brake fluid.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Friday that the recall includes the 2023-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban 1500, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 and the 2023-2024 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL models.

The agency said without the warning light, vehicles could be driven with low brake fluid, reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.

Vehicle owners will be offered free software updates.
