General Motors is recalling more than 449,000 SUVs and pickup trucks because software in the electronic brake control module may not display a warning light in the event of a loss of brake fluid.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Friday that the recall includes the 2023-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban 1500, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 and the 2023-2024 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL models.
The agency said without the warning light, vehicles could be driven with low brake fluid, reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.
Vehicle owners will be offered free software updates.

Notification letters to owners will be mailed on Oct. 28. Vehicle owners may contact GMC Customer Service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet Customer Service at 1-800-222-1020 or Cadillac Customer Service at 1-800-458-8006.
