Scott Jennings takes on CNN panel over antisemitism in the US: Problem is ‘not on the right’

CNN commentator Scott Jennings said Democrats have not done enough to condemn the rising anti-Semitism on college campuses and in protests across the country following the Israel-Hamas war.

“Everybody at this table knows where the source of anti-Semitism in this country comes from,” Jennings said on “CNN This Morning” Friday during a discussion of former President Trump's attempts to appeal to Jewish voters.

“Not on the right side,” he said.

He argued that Democrats have not honestly acknowledged growing concerns about anti-Semitism within the party.

“Let's talk about what's going on. [at] “Let's talk about what's going on on every college campus,” he said. “Let's talk about what's going on on the streets of New York City.”

Prestigious schools such as Columbia University and Brown University have been rocked by anti-Israel protests on their campuses, and a former Brown University trustee announced his resignation in an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal earlier this month.

Jennings also defended former President Trump's support for Israel during his administration.

“He certainly had a strong pro-Israel policy,” Jennings said. “He took a hard line on Iran.”

“The problem of anti-Semitism in this country is on the left, not the right,” he added.

“There's no denying what's been happening in America since Oct. 7,” Jennings said, referring to Hamas' terror attacks against Israelis and other civilians that sparked the war, “and it has to do with one thing and one thing only: There's a rise in anti-Semitism, and there are people who feel like now is the time to let it out. It's ugly.”

“If the left wants to apologize, go ahead,” Jennings said, before getting into a spat with Sarah Longwell, executive director of the anti-Trump Republican Party, about Trump's reputation among Jewish voters. “I'm not going to do that.”

“No, you're denying that it exists on the right,” Longwell said. “You're cheering for Trump in a way that ignores the fact that he himself dined with white supremacists and “got cozy” with Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

Trump had dinner with Holocaust denier and political commentator Nick Fuentes in 2023. Greene has been criticized for saying the 2018 California wildfires were started by “space-based solar power devices.” characterized as anti-Semitic.

Jennings maintained that anti-Israel protesters remain concentrated on the left, telling Longwell, “They are your party now, they are your people. They are the people you are trying to represent. That's your coalition.”

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
