San Francisco Officer in Chicken Costume Works to Catch Law-Breaking Drivers

Police officers in San Francisco, California, are donning silly costumes to try to catch drivers who cross the street.

Police Lt. Jonathan Ozoll was standing on Alemany Boulevard near the intersection at SF Gate on Monday, dressed in an inflatable chicken costume, ready to ticket drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians. Reported.

Despite his funny costume, some drivers did not stop him from crossing the road.

Police Capt. Amy Hurwitz said the training was one of five the city has conducted in the past six months as it works to ensure drivers are careful and taking the right action when approaching crosswalks.

“State law requires drivers to stop for pedestrians crossing the street, and Ozor said failure to do so could result in a ticket and a hefty fine of up to $400,” the news outlet reported.

“Chicken exercise is not unreasonable. A 76-year-old man Beaten and killed “A driver pulled over a costumed stuntman at a police-supervised crosswalk on Monday,” the Gate report noted, adding that officers have pulled over numerous drivers in costumes.

San Francisco city leaders have launched an effort to install 400 license plate readers throughout the city in an effort to combat crime, Breitbart News reported in March.

“San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said the system will help police apprehend suspects and address murder, robbery, assault, vehicle break-ins and other crimes,” the article noted.

Notably, San Francisco voters passed ballot measures in March, one of which would expand police powers, Breitbart News reported at the time.

“Voters were responding to a crime wave in the city that began before the Black Lives Matter movement led to attacks on police and a brief attempt to 'defund' the local police department,” the outlet reported.
