Interim NYPD commissioner says federal agents searched homes, seized materials

Federal agents had searched his home and seized materials, the New York Police Department's interim commissioner said in a statement posted on social platform X on Saturday.

“On Friday, September 20th, federal authorities executed a search warrant at my residence,” Thomas G. Donlon It said in a statement “They took materials I acquired about 20 years ago that were unrelated to my work with the NYPD,” the post said on the NYPD's X account.

“This is not a ministry matter and the ministry will not comment on it,” the statement continued.

Earlier this month, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (Democrat) announced that NYPD Commissioner Edward Cavan had resigned, shortly after the FBI seized Cavan's equipment in a federal investigation.

Cavan previously said he decided to resign after “news about recent events caused confusion within the police department,” The Associated Press reported after obtaining an email sent by Cavan to the police department.

“I will not focus my attention on anything other than our important work or the safety of the men and women of the NYPD,” he wrote to the news agency.

Reports earlier this month said the homes of several aides to Cavan and Adams were searched by FBI agents.

The Hill has contacted Adams' press office, the FBI and the Department of Justice.
