Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley argued on MSNBC's “Morning Joe” on Monday that voters “should wake up” to the “doomsday scenarios” that would play out if former President Donald Trump were elected.
“What's at stake with about 45 days to go? What's at stake?” host Joe Scarborough said.
“American democracy, there's no other way around it. Donald Trump is a usurper of democracy. He's a destroyer. You were talking today rightly reminding people of January 6th, but in the midst of the hellscape he's created to divide our country, we have a chance to come together. Kamala Harris is doing a great job. The momentum is hers. I think we're just going to get more young people involved. North Carolina is a state. I know everyone's waiting on Pennsylvania, but North Carolina is really interesting because there's a chance Harris could win,” Brinkley said.
He continued: “The danger of Donald Trump, the inherent danger, he's radioactive. He's coming into power and trying to gut the government because that's a nice-sounding term. He's going to abolish the civil service, he's going to start trying to gut the federal government, and the country is going to fall into chaos.”
Brinkley added: “With this new court-granted prerogative that the president is above the law, if Trump becomes president we will enter a doomsday scenario. People need to wake up, be alert and pay attention now. The days ahead will fly by.”
