Mother Arrested in Connection to Baby’s Fentanyl Death in West Virginia

A West Virginia mother has been arrested after allegedly using fentanyl to kill her 10-month-old daughter, WSAZ3. Reported.

Candace Ferrell, 38, of Huntington, was charged with child abuse resulting in death, according to reports citing court documents.

“I really don't know how I'm going to survive without her. I don't know. I guess I'll just have to figure it out as I go along,” Ferrell told the outlet.

Her baby daughter was found unresponsive on Aug. 13, 2024. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to court documents.

A search warrant was executed and investigators say they found approximately 37 blue pills marked “M30” inside the crib where the baby was allegedly found.

An autopsy revealed the baby died of fentanyl poisoning, according to reports.

“I feel very guilty about what happened. It doesn't matter where it happened. It happened under my watch,” Ferrell told the outlet.

She also warned other parents not to make the same mistake.

“The biggest thing I can say to people is keep your kids away from drug dealing, that's it. Even if it's not you, it's people around you. Anything could happen, so just don't do it,” she said.

She is scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing, according to reports.
