Ken Burns in fundraising pitch for Harris: 'Our democracy hangs in the balance'

“Our democracy is at stake,” Ken Burns said in a history-based fundraising appeal for Vice President Harris' campaign for the White House.

A fundraising email sent by the Harris campaign on Wednesday was signed by Burns, with the “Civil War” documentary filmmaker calling the presidential election “one of the most important elections in the history of our country.”

Burns urged supporters to donate $25 and praised Harris and President Biden, saying future generations will look upon them as “the legislative achievements that make this one of the most effective administrations in our country.”

Burns slammed former President Trump, saying he “threatened the most basic tenets of our democracy, including the peaceful transfer of power, and bears the historic honor of being the first former president to be convicted of 34 felony offenses.”

“When it comes to Donald Trump, history has shown us that complacency is our biggest enemy,” the 71-year-old Emmy winner said.

“History will remember our actions in this moment,” the call for political donations read.

“Let's not give ourselves and our country a second thought that we'll regret,” he said. “Our democracy depends on it.”
