Kamala Harris Supported All-Out Ban on Handgun Ownership as DA

When Kamala Harris was San Francisco's district attorney, she supported a proposal to ban handgun ownership at the city level.

This prohibition was included in Proposition H.

Mercury News, November 4, 2005 Reported“While Mayor Gavin Newsom has not taken a position, some of the city's most liberal leaders support the sweeping ban, including District Attorney Kamala Harris and the four supervisors listed as proponents.”

The ban supported by Harris would require city residents to surrender all handguns within four months.

New York Post attention The ban “was approved by San Francisco voters on Election Day 2005 but was struck down by a state court before it could take effect.”

On September 18, 2024, Breitbart News noted that Harris also supported gun ownership restrictions while she was the district attorney of San Francisco. Harris went so far as to tell San Francisco residents that legal gun ownership did not prevent police from searching their homes to ensure compliance with gun laws.

“…Just because you legally own a gun in the sanctity of your locked home does not mean we will not enter your home and make sure you are acting responsibly and safely,” Harris said.
