Christian artist Phil Wickham has big dreams, and he shared them in a recent interview with New Zealand video creator Fraser Grutt, best known for his 10,000 Dreams segment. InstagramIn the short clip, Wickham humbly shares his wildest dreams for life as he says he wants to grow old with his wife and honor the work God has allowed them to do.
“I want to live that life when I'm about 80 years old, sitting in rocking chairs on the porch with my wife, who's 77, and feeling moved by all that God has allowed us to do,” Wickham said. “We're still in love, our children and grandchildren are thriving, and we're all striving to live a life full of grace and love and mercy, and hopefully we can help lead that way.”
The San Diego, California, couple will celebrate their 16th wedding anniversary in November. Their close family of six – Phil, his wife Mallory, their three daughters Penelope, Mabel and Lottie, and their son Henry – is a very close couple. Wickham's wife and children occasionally travel with him on tour and have the opportunity to see him perform.
Wickham is moved to imagine a future in which the people closest to him, his wife and children, tell him more about himself at home than they ever tell him on stage.
“Right now I feel like crying because I know I can do better. I just want my family and my kids to see me on Instagram, see me on stage and be that person. Yes, that's fine, but then I want them to see me through the hard times at home and the frustrating times and act out of love and perseverance and become the person I'm talking about on stage.”
He says his dream is just to be a good person, and acknowledges that his fame has brought many other great blessings to his life, including appearances on Saturday Night Live and the Super Bowl halftime show. He jokes about his dream of one day being able to dunk, but laughs about the fact that he would need surgery to be physically able to do so.
“There are countless dreams out there, but you have to narrow them down and think about what you really want. I want to practice what I preach. And [I want] People were saying, 'Oh, he did it,' and my wife was saying, 'Yes, that's exactly what he says onstage.'
Fraser Grutt posted the interview on his Instagram page, tagging Wickham and writing, “So so inspired by this dream and continuing to try…”
