New York City Councilmember Tiffany Caban (D) said Thursday on CNN's “The Lead” that New York City Mayor Eric Adams is indicted for allegedly engaging in campaign finance and foreign influence crimes, including Gov. Cathy Hochul. He said he should be removed from office by the Democratic Party of New York. .
“The real question for New Yorkers right now is whether this mayor can govern in this moment and provide the critical services that New Yorkers deserve every day,” Caban said. And we know he can't even do that before the charges are dropped. So it's not just that he's the first person in New York City history to face criminal charges. It's not just the mass exodus of government officials, but this continued pattern of mismanagement and corruption that is disrupting the city's ability to provide government services and food, and yes, until proven guilty. It's innocent. I'm a big supporter of due process. But this is about whether he can get the job done. This is too distracting at the moment. ”
Host Jake Tapper said, “Doesn't Governor Kathy Hochul have the authority to remove Mayor Adams from office?”
Caban said, “Yes. As I said, this is a moment where it is very clear that he cannot govern. The government cannot function as it is.”
