A look at the Presidents Cup Friday foursome pairings; best authentic quotes from Day 1

Welcome to Golf Talk Today, the daily habit of Playing Through.

Every day, our crew will discuss a different element of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf, and more.

Team USA defeated the International Team 5-0 on Thursday in the Presidents Cup. The Americans rejected every attempt made by the Internationals.

Today we'll take a look at the foursome and some of the best quotes from Thursday's game.

On Day 1, Keegan Bradley and Scottie Scheffler produced some of the most passionate moments, giving Team USA and fans plenty of energy. However, all five games featured great golf, marking the start of the popular Presidents Cup.

First, let's take a look at Friday's foursome pairings and see who the two captains matched up with.

Presidents Cup Friday Foursome Matchups (ET):

match 6
1:05 PM ET — Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele vs. Hideki Matsuyama and Sung-Jae Im

match 7
1:19 p.m. ET — Sahith Segala and Collin Morikawa vs. Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith

match 8
1:33 PM ET — Max Homa and Brian Herman vs. Christian Bezuidenhout and Jason Day

match 9
1:47 PM ET — Windham Clark and Tony Finau vs. Corey Connors and Mackenzie Hughes

match 10
2:01pm ET — Scottie Scheffler, Russell Henry vs. Kim Si-woo, Byung-hoon Ahn

Team USA captain Jim Furyk reunited close friends Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele after they separated for Thursday's four-ball session. This duo is a strong force for the Americans, and Coach Furyk seems to trust them to do well in their first match.

He also opted to retain Saheeth Segala and Collin Morikawa, who won Thursday's match. However, national team captain Mike Weir chose a new playing partner for Adam Scott, replacing Lee Min-woo with Taylor Pendrith.

The all-Canadian duo of Corey Connors and Mackenzie Hughes has finally been born. Will it be a blessing in disguise for the international team?

The latest pairing is Max Homa and Brian Herman, who missed the U.S. squad on Thursday. The two played together in last year's Ryder Cup and were one of the bright spots on that team.

Furyk also opted to keep the pairing of Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henry after seeing their strength on Thursday. They played together a lot and quickly formed a bond. The duo will be the anchor match for Friday's session, and I like Furyk's choice.

Sam Burns and Keegan Bradley sit on the American team. I don't think Bradley should sit because he putsts so well. Overall, this combination is strong for Team USA and could easily extend their lead.

Weir opted to sit Lee and Tom Kim on Friday, which is surprising considering they brought so much energy.

Thursday's Best Presidents Cup Quotes

“I knew Colin was a ball player, but just his presence and his calming presence and the way he goes through the process, he's just a silent killer. That inspires me. All the guys on this team are beasts, and just to be close to Colin, I've known him forever. We play team games together. I’ve never been able to do that before – it was amazing.”

— Sahith Segala talks about playing with Collin Morikawa

“I think I had some pent up energy from not playing these for 10 years. I had a lot of fun today. It's really fun to be here with these guys. I told Windham how much I missed being out here and doing this. What a great day for America.”

— Keegan Bradley talks about his emotions upon rejoining Team USA

“I don't shy away from him. He's a good friend. But at the same time, I don't like him this week. I want to beat him so bad, and he feels the same way. I am confident that it is.”

— Tom Kim talks about playing his best friend Scottie Scheffler this week

“I feel like it was a closer game than the score indicates. Our players are going to have to pick themselves up a little bit. We're going to have to find a new gear to beat a tough American team. .”

—Adam Scott, on Thursday's game.

“One thing I know is that Patrick Cantlay is a dog. Patrick Cantlay is very good at golf and I love playing golf with him.”

— Sam Burns on Patrick Cantlay
