College field hockey teams sprint off field after nearby shooting in Philadelphia

A shooting near Temple University caused a college field hockey game to be postponed Friday afternoon.

St. Louis and La Salle faced off at Temple University's Howarth Field in Philadelphia. La Salle, another Philadelphia school, is playing its home games on this field this year.

With 10:45 left in the game, gunshots were clearly heard.

Immediately after, almost everyone on the field, including players, referees, and spectators, ran as fast as they could to safety.

The announcer for the game, which was broadcast on ESPN+, said there was a “loud noise” nearby and that players were “evacuated” from the field. The referee appears to have tripped over one of the nets during the evacuation.

One person could be heard yelling to people around them to “get down now!”

The shooting happened in the parking lot of a nearby Kentucky Fried Chicken, Philadelphia police said.

“The gunman fled the scene before police arrived,” Philadelphia police told Fox News Digital. “No gunshot victims were located.” “The scene has been secured, no arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered at this time. The investigation remains active with central detectives.”

According to each school's sports website and the Atlantic 10's website, La Salle won 1-0.
