Jon Rahm had a problem with his driver during the third round of the DP World Tour's Spanish Open in Madrid. It needed repairs early on, so I had to play without it until the 14th hole.
But Rahm was unfazed by the setback, saying, “It really didn't have that big of an impact.” Instead, he took his 3-wood off the tee and paraded it around Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, shooting a 6-under 65. He recorded zero bogeys and six birdies, two behind his compatriot Angel Hidalgo through 54 holes.
“At the end of the day on this course, if you can get it in the fairway, you're always going to get a better result than hitting a driver off the line. We've done a pretty good job of mitigating that,” Rahm said.
“But I was happy to get my driver back as quickly as I did. I thought I would play the rest of the rounds without it. I was happy to hear the news that I could make it by 14:00 on the 12th. I don't know what it was, but it was just a little moment of happiness that gave me a little bit of a boost for the rest of the round.”
When Rahm received his driver on the 14th hole, he was already at 4 under for the round. However, he added two more birdies on the 16th, 18th hole To further move up the leaderboard.
He will now go into Sunday's final round aiming for a fourth Spanish Open title, surpassing the three won by his idol Seve Ballesteros during his illustrious career. A win would mean the world to Rahm and to Spanish golf as a whole.
Even better, Lahm will also be joined by Hidalgo and departed Spaniard David Puig, 22, in Sunday's final draw. arizona Scheduled to join Liv Golf in 2022.
“I'm very excited. I haven't been paired with them on tour or in a tournament yet. We play a lot at home, but it hasn't happened yet. First time in the final round, final group I'm happy to be a part of it,” Rahm said.
“And hopefully we can finish with a win, but atmosphere-wise it's definitely going to be a Sunday unlike anything they've ever had before. There's going to be a lot of people watching and it's going to be a really fun event.” hey.”
