Biden Reacts to Nasrallah Death by Calling for Ceasefire Deals, Again

President Joe Biden issued a statement Saturday welcoming the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike, but ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon continue despite Israel's progress toward victory. He reiterated his call for an agreement.

Biden's full statement statement is as follows:

Hassan Nasrallah and his terrorist organization Hezbollah were responsible for killing hundreds of Americans during a four-decade reign of terror. His death in an Israeli airstrike is a measure of justice for his many victims, including thousands of Americans, Israelis, and Lebanese civilians.

The attack that killed Nasrallah took place within the broader context of the conflict that began with the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre. The next day, Nasrallah made the fateful decision to join forces with Hamas and open what he called a “northern front.” against Israel.

The United States fully supports Israel's right to protect itself from Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and other Iranian-backed terrorist groups. Just yesterday, I directed the Secretary of Defense to further strengthen the defense posture of U.S. forces in the Middle East to deter aggression and reduce the risk of broader regional war.

Our ultimate goal is to defuse the ongoing conflicts in both Gaza and Lebanon through diplomatic means. In Gaza, we have pursued a ceasefire and hostage release agreement with the support of the United Nations Security Council. Lebanon continues to negotiate a deal to safely return people to Israel and their homes in southern Lebanon. It is time for these agreements to be concluded, the threat to Israel to be removed, and the broader Middle East region to gain greater stability.

era of israel reported The Biden administration was angry about the airstrikes because Israel did not notify them until the operation was underway and appeared to persuade the White House about a ceasefire, officials said.

Israel was right to worry that the White House was not keeping its operations secret. Maher Bitar, the intelligence director of the Biden administration's National Security Council, is a former radical pro-Palestinian activist. Additionally, President Barack Obama thought He allegedly leaked information to the media about a possible Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities in order to warn the Iranians and deter an Israeli attack.

The Biden administration has sought to prevent Israel from destroying the terrorist organization through the war that began with the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7 last year. Vice President Kamala Harris warned Israel not to enter Rafah to destroy Hamas.
