US military killed 37 terrorists in Syria earlier this month: officials

It was announced on Sunday that the United States recently killed 37 terrorists in Syria, including several senior members of ISIS and the al-Qaeda affiliate Hurras al-Din.

U.S. Central Command said it had carried out two airstrikes in the region, one on Tuesday killing Marwan Bassam, a senior official in the Hurras al-Din group that oversees the terrorist group's operations in Syria.

The explosion killed eight other operatives of the terrorist group. The US Central Communications Agency said the group was a terrorist organization with “global ambitions to carry out attacks against US and Western interests.”

A week earlier, Centcom conducted a major airstrike against a remote ISIS training camp in central Syria, killing 28 terrorists, officials announced.

The explosion killed at least four senior leaders, and there were no civilian casualties in either attack, the military said.

“These attacks against leaders and operatives of ISIS and al-Qaeda affiliate Huras al-Din demonstrate CENTCOM's commitment to the lasting defeat of terrorist organizations in CENTCOM's area of ​​responsibility and support for regional stability.” said Gen. In addition to attacking terrorist organizations based in Syria, CENTCOM officials are also focused on protecting U.S. ships and commercial vessels sailing through the Red Sea, which are a prime target of the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist group. .

During the attack that killed Bassam, Centcom also fired an interceptor missile that destroyed a Houthi drone targeting a ship in the Red Sea, officials said.

The Houthis have vowed to continue attacking ships in the region in solidarity with Hamas, as the wars in Gaza and Lebanon both threaten to erupt into full-scale war in the region.
