ABC News' Martha Raddatz and Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) said Sunday that former President Trump should “stick to the issue” over recent comments he made about Vice President Kamala Harris. He repeatedly insisted that this was the case, leading to a conflict.

“Do you think Kamala Harris is mentally retarded and do you condone that kind of language?” Raddatz said, echoing Trump's comments at a recent rally.

President Trump told the audience at a recent Wisconsin rally: “Joe Biden became mentally ill. Kamala was born that way. She was born that way. And if you think about it, this… Only mentally ill people would allow this to happen to their country.” ”

Emmer argued that Harris was the “wrong choice” for the United States.

ABC News host presses Kamala Harris ally over vice president's false claims about active duty U.S. military: 'Why would she say that?'

“Congressman, do you approve of that language?” Raddatz interjected.

“I think we should stick to this issue,” Emmer replied.

Raddatz then turned the conversation to Trump and Vance's baseless claims that Haitian immigrants were eating dogs and cats in Springfield, Ohio.

“One of the issues, of course, is immigration. I can't believe we're still talking about this, but Mr. Vance and Mr. Trump's baseless claims that Haitian immigrants were eating pets have been exaggerated.” Raddatz said. “If the debate moderator asks Mr. Vance about this, should Mr. Vance ultimately clarify that it's not true?”

Emmer said the question was “distracting.”

“People in the mainstream media want to put up these shiny objects to distract people from what's going on every day,” Emmer continued, but Raddatz pushed back, saying Trump and Vance He claimed to have raised this issue.

“I think they have to focus on the problem. The problem is very clear. The economy works under Donald Trump, it doesn't work under Kamala Harris. Under Donald Trump, the border is closed. And crime is under control. And the border is wide open, and Kamala Harris is moving into Minnesota to bail out rioters and people who attack police. Trump's policies would be a very clear contrast. Kamala Harris is talking about, I don't know why you don't ask her about her price controls, I mean, she's been far to the left. That's true,” Emmer said.

Mr Raddatz claimed the ABC was asking Ms Harris about “price controls” and asked whether Mr Emmer supported policies proposed by Ms Harris during her border visit.

“Will we believe her word now that it has taken her nearly four years to resolve the border crisis and all she has done is make sure the border is wide open?” Emmer answered. “This is too little, too late. No one can believe her because her actions have been saying completely different things for four years.”
