Rob Gronkowski left confused as ‘FOX NFL Sunday’ crew pulls off hilarious prank: ‘Whoa!’

Legendary NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski was the subject of a prank on FOX NFL Sunday that left everyone stunned with hilarious scenes.

When it comes to beating tight ends, the star-studded staff looks to Gronkowski, a four-time Super Bowl champion who will one day wear the gold jacket as one of the best tight ends in NFL history. Probably.

However, his colleagues at Fox decided to launch a high-speed attack on him during a fake segment that everyone but “Gronk” knew was not real.

“He thought we were going to add an extra corner and broadcast it live,” Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer said in a recap clip of the prank. “…The premise is that the Cowboys are trying to activate this great Pro Bowl tight end that doesn't exist, and Gronkowski has to appear on supposedly live TV to talk about this tight end. I was going to give you a 'breaking news' about this.”

Gronkowski's colleague, Hall of Famer Michael Strahan, suggested the team should discuss Russo in the following video. And so the mischief begins.

Glazer then started talking about Russo being activated by the Dallas Cowboys, but Gronkowski was very quiet while the fake player was being discussed. Then Strahan intervened.

“This is big because Russo is a complete game changer and takes a lot of pressure off.” [Cowboys quarterback] duck [Prescott]takes a lot of pressure off the run game, is a great blocker, great receiver,” Strahan said.

After that explanation, host Kurt Menefe asked Gronkowski for his opinion on Russo, which he obediently accepted.

“Well, he's been out for a little while so he might be a little rusty when he comes back, but I think they'll give him a chance, that's for sure, but they also… [Jake] So is Ferguson, so they're going to be a 1-2 combo,” Gronkowski said.

Gronkowski tried to shift the conversation to Ferguson, the Cowboys' actual starting tight end. However, another Hall of Famer, Terry Bradshaw, quickly returned to Russo, and that's when things got really weird.

“He's the only player in the league missing two fingers on his right hand. That's why he was out, but now he's back,” Bradshaw said.

“So will that affect when he catches passes?” Gronkowski asked Bradshaw.

The crew was doing their best to keep the bit going, but they couldn't keep a sane face anymore, so Menefe let Gronkowski inside.

“Oh! I was wondering,” Gronkowski said, looking surprised. “The second I finished, I was going to say, 'Guys, I've never heard of Rich Russo in my life.'

When the show was actually airing live this Sunday, Gronkowski told his team that he was “dizzy” thinking about how to appear knowledgeable about Russo.

But if Gronkowski learned anything about that moment, it was to “always be ready.”
