New York Times: Harris only 'patriotic choice' in presidential election

The New York Times Editorial Board is backing Vice President Harris over former President Trump in this fall's presidential election.

in An editorial published on Monday, “It is difficult to imagine a candidate less suited to be president of the United States than Donald Trump,” the paper said.

“He has proven himself morally unfit for a public office that requires him to put the national interest above his personal interests,” the paper wrote of Harris' Republican opponent. “He proved temperamentally unsuited for roles that required the qualities he most lacked: wisdom, integrity, empathy, courage, self-control, humility, and discipline.”

For these reasons, the paper continued, Harris is “the only choice for a patriotic president,” regardless of “whether voters have political disagreements with her.”

The Times Editorial Board explained, “The heart of most presidential elections is about two different visions of America, born of competing policies and principles.” “This is about something much more fundamental. It's about giving this country a man who has made it clear without a doubt that he intends to degrade our values, ignore our norms, and dismantle the institutions that have made our country strong.” “It concerns whether or not he will be invited to the highest office in the country.'' ”

Most national polls show Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump trailing by a narrow margin with just over a month to go until Election Day.

The Times recently announced that it would not endorse candidates in New York local elections.
