‘Gave up Basketball to Follow Jesus’

Atlanta Hawks forward AJ Griffin announced he will retire from the NBA this year, just two years after being drafted. Now 21 years old, he explains why he abruptly quit being a professional. “I'm quitting to follow Jesus.”

Griffin played in 92 games during his short NBA career with the Hawks, averaging 17.1 minutes and 7.5 points per game. However, just as he was preparing to play for the Houston Rockets this season, he announced his retirement.

fox news reported Griffin told fans in a YouTube video that he is putting his faith in Jesus before basketball.

“I quit basketball to follow Jesus,” the former player said. “And I know in many people's eyes it looks like a loss to the world. But I want to tell you that I am so excited to be serving God. You know, I'm saying yes with all my might, but I feel like letting go of basketball allows me to give it my all. -Take time to serve, truly serve the Lord with all your heart and all of your time. So I'm really excited to see where that leads me. ”

Griffin said in 2020 that she “dedicated my whole life to Christ,” but now she feels she must give her full attention to her religion. He feels called to let go of basketball to serve the Lord.

He also quotes Matthew 10:39: “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

Griffin's buyout will open up a roster spot for the Rockets, but the team already has an impressive lineup. The spot can also be left empty to give you a little flexibility for late-season trades.
