How will the 2025 College Football Playoff bracket be set?
The new bracket is determined as follows: According to the CFP website:
- The 12 participating teams will be the five highest ranked conference champions by the CFP Selection Committee, plus the top seven teams.
- The top four players in the conference will be selected from No. 1 to No. 4 seeds, with the first round being a bye. The fifth-time conference champion will be seeded where they are ranked or seeded 12th in the rankings if they are outside of the top 12 in the rankings. The top four ranked non-conference champions will be seeded starting at No. 5. Therefore, seeds 1-12 may differ from the final ranking.
- Eight teams, seeds No. 5 through No. 12, will play in the first round, with the higher seed hosting the lower seed and competing on campus or at another venue designated by the higher-seeded institution (the No. 5 12 teams, 11th place (11th place). No. 6, No. 10 on No. 7, No. 9 on No. 8).
- The selection committee will assign the top four conference champions to the playoff quarterfinals hosted by Bowles. This is done considering historical bowl relationships and then rankings.
