Patrick Mahomes isn't happy with himself after taking down Laci Rice in last week's win over the Chargers.
After throwing an interception during the first quarter, the Chiefs quarterback crashed into Rice, who was trying to make a tackle, causing the wide receiver's right knee to bend the wrong way, causing what the team at the time called a torn ACL. I was afraid.
“I didn't realize it in that moment. I was more worried about trying to get the ball,” Mahomes said in a press conference Thursday. “But obviously it was just trying to make a play and it happens any time you’re trying to make a tackle.
“I mean, when I saw the replay, I felt like I might have hit Lachie. I think that's pretty much it. I mean, I wasn't worried about myself. I wasn't worried about his I was worried about the injury and I was the one who hit him so I was hoping it wasn't as bad as it looked.”
Rice, 24, was carted off the field, but tests have not yet confirmed whether he suffered a torn ACL.
Head coach Andy Reid told reporters Thursday that the team is waiting for the swelling in Rice's knee to subside before conducting additional tests.
The team on Thursday placed Rice on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the next four games.
Rice was one of the NFL's top pass catchers with 24 receptions, 288 yards and two touchdowns through the first three weeks.

The Chiefs will rely on tight end Travis Kelce, rookie receiver Xavier Worthy and a combination of Justin Watson, Skai Moore and JuJu Smith-Schuster in the passing game while Rice is out. Become.
“Obviously, Rachy is a big part of the game plan. We've got to get guys in there and get the timing right,” Mahomes told reporters. “The coach tries to make that happen in practice. He tries to throw guys in certain situations. But obviously, there's a limit to the reps. But they accept that challenge and in that moment. I thought I did a great job of being there.
“But Coach Reed does a great job of getting the players ready through the game plan for the week. We had an extra day this week, so the players are ready to play great football.” I am sure.”
