Harris claims ad quoting her 2019 vow to ban fracking is ‘mischaracterization’ to make people ‘afraid’ of her

Vice President Kamala Harris claimed this week that an ad showing clips of her past comments on fracking is misleading and “intended to make people fear my presidency.” .

CBS Pittsburgh's John Delano spoke with Harris. interview On Tuesday, he asked her to clarify her evolving position on hydraulic fracturing, one of many key issues that she has been accused of subverting for political gain.

“I wanted to ask you, there’s a political ad on TV that you did at the 2019 Climate Hall town meeting, in which you basically said, ‘There is no question that we should ban fracking. I agree.'' Unquote,'' the interviewer said. “The ad claims that if you are elected president, you will ban fracking, resulting in the loss of over 300,000 jobs in Pennsylvania. KDKA-TV's John Delano spoke to Harris in an exclusive interview, demanding that he clarify his position on hydraulic fracturing.

“First of all, I want to say that I think that ad that you described is completely misleading and designed to make people fear my presidency,” Harris said.

“Let me be clear, just like I said in 2020, I will not ban fracking. As vice president, I did not ban it. In fact, I will ban more fracking leases. We had a tie-breaking vote to start,” she added, referring to her role as vice president in passing the so-called anti-inflation law in the deadlocked Senate.

In 2020, Harris was asked about hydraulic fracturing during a debate with then-Vice President Mike Pence, but she did not make it clear that she was reversing her opposition to fracking that she had made in 2019, and Biden instead asked President The government only stated that it would not ban hydraulic fracturing.

“Joe Biden is not going to end fracking. He's been very clear about that,” Harris said.

“Again, the American people know that Joe Biden will not ban fracking. That's a fact. That's a fact,” she added in another part of the debate.

On Tuesday, Harris said, “My view on this is based on a number of things, including that we don't need to ban fracking to also invest in a clean energy economy.”

She then made multiple promises to American voters.

“I'm going to bring jobs back to rural communities. I'm going to make sure we're investing in communities that have had the kind of jobs that you think of when you talk about Pittsburgh or when you talk about the larger city.” A side of Pennsylvania,” she vowed. “And I plan to continue that work.”

“That's my position. As president of the United States, I will not ban fracking,” Harris said.
