Wildlife lover facing charges after allegedly assaulting passersby while attempting to capture a baby seagull

A Belfast woman has appeared in court accused of attacking a good Samaritan who tried to free a captured baby seagull on August 14.

Angela Wildman, 58, is said to have used a milk carton and a long-handled mop to attack a passerby who tried to release a waterfowl from a sports bag.

In court, Wildman denied charges including common assault, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, disorderly behavior and resisting a police officer, according to the BBC.

Mr Wildman's lawyer, Damian Traynor, told the court that the 58-year-old denied having been diagnosed with a mental illness.

“She caught a baby seagull and was taking care of it, which attracted a lot of public attention.”

Wildman was granted bail for six weeks in custody before a court date on Tuesday.
