Vanderbilt fans take goalpost throughout Nashville, throw it in Cumberland River after upsetting No. 1 Alabama

No one had a better night in Nashville than the goalposts for Saturday's Vanderbilt-Alabama game.

Fans destroyed goal posts inside FirstBank Stadium after the unranked Commodores defeated No. 1 Alabama, 40-35.

Somehow, somehow, a fan won a post outside the stadium and became the VIP for the night.

Some fans even climbed on top of the goalposts as they were leaving the stadium.

The goalposts ran all the way from the stadium to Broadway.

Afterwards, we took a dip in the Cumberland River.

This isn't the first time a Tennessean has celebrated a win against Alabama by stealing the goalposts and going on a wild run. Volunteer fans did the same thing two years ago when then No. 6 Tennessee defeated No. 3 Alabama.

The Commodores returned to the locker room at halftime with a 23-14 lead.

Vanderbilt added 17 points in the second half, thwarting any comeback attempt. 1st place Alabama to secure an upset victory in Nashville.

Cedric Alexander scored two touchdowns, Landon Fontenette scored on a pick-six and Diego Pavia topped Milroe.

“Games like this change your life,” Pavia said.

Before Saturday, Vanderbilt last defeated Alabama on September 29, 1984.

Saturday's improbable victory improved Vanderbilt's record to 3-2, but it was Alabama's first loss. The Crimson Tide will return home next week and try to fight back against South Carolina.
