Two men with sledgehammers smashed the windows of a Chanel store on the Upper East Side Sunday evening, police and sources said.
Photos show broken glass scattered on the sidewalk in front of an upscale retailer at East 64th Street and Madison Avenue after the brazen attack around 7 p.m.
Police said late Sunday it was unclear whether any items were stolen from the upscale retailer, but officials said at least two items were stolen.
“It's obviously not a good thing for people who live in that area, but what do you expect? This is New York City,” Max Morris, who lives near the Chanel store, told the Post. .
“I hope someone comes along and does something about this.”
“I'm not surprised. That's why we really need a good mayor to come in and clean up this situation. This is a terrible situation,” he added.
Police said no arrests were made and no injuries were reported. The investigation is still ongoing.
