A 19-year-old rodeo star who won the 2024 Miss Teen Rodeo Kansas was killed in a single-vehicle crash in rural Kansas Friday night, leaving four teammates and five others injured, authorities said.
Emma Brungardt, of Blue Rapids, was a passenger in a 2007 Ford F250 pickup truck heading south on County Road 21 in Thomas County when the pickup “left the roadway” at a Y-junction. The vehicle crashed into a tree line, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Online crash report.
Troopers said Brungardt was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The driver and four other passengers survived the crash but reported possible injuries.
Colby Community College, where Brungardt was a sophomore, confirmed her death to FOX News Digital on Monday morning.

The school's rodeo team said in a Facebook post that four other team members and a research scientist were also in the vehicle.
A post on the team page said, “We pray for the repose of the souls of everyone involved.'' “Emma had a kind heart, was kind to others and always had a positive attitude. Her light will continue to live on in and around the rodeo arena.”

The driver of the pickup truck was an 18-year-old man from Colorado, according to a Highway Patrol crash report. Other passengers included a 20-year-old woman from Larned, a 19-year-old woman from Newton, a 19-year-old woman from Galva, and an 18-year-old man from Council Grove.

The website states that she joined FFA, a non-profit organization that provides agriculture classes to students, while in high school and competed in the Kansas Wild Horse Youth Challenge, where she was crowned grand champion in 2019 and 2021.
