Two of the biggest stars in women's sports team up on the course.
caitlin clarke WNBA On Monday, the superstar who took the world by storm Wednesday's pro-am ahead of Anika led by Gainbridgethe penultimate event on this year's LPGA schedule. LPGA Hall of Famer and 10-time major champion Annika Sorenstam hosts the event each year, which is held at Pelican Golf Club in Bellaire, Florida. The tournament will feature 120 players competing for a $3.25 million purse.
In addition to playing in the pro-am, Clark will be participating on the Women's Leadership Panel on Tuesday, November 12th. The tournament and its corresponding panel will be held during Parity Week, an initiative to celebrate and promote girls and women in sports and education. .
“I love the game of golf, so the opportunity to play in a pro-am in a tournament that bears the name of a legend like Annika Sorenstam is very exciting,” Clark said in a statement.
“I look forward to seeing all of the LPGA players on the practice range, attending the Women’s Leadership Summit, and of course teeing up with Annika at the Pro-Am.”
Clark arrives in the Tampa Bay area as the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year. But she achieved so much more in her first season as a member of the Indiana Fever. The former Iowa State standout scored the most points in a season by a point guard in WNBA history. She set many other WNBA records, including 337 assists (8.4 per game). On top of that, she became the first WNBA rookie to record two triple-doubles in her first season, proving that she is indeed in rarefied air.
“I have been following Caitlin's career in the WNBA since her college days, and her efforts to bring attention to women's sports both on and off the court are incredible,” Sorenstam said.
“We look forward to meeting Caitlin and having her join us at Pelican Golf Club in November. It will be an exciting week for women’s sports.”
