Whitney Houston's mother, Cissy Houston, died at her home in New Jersey while receiving hospice care for Alzheimer's disease. She was 91 years old.
Houston's daughter-in-law, Pat Houston, confirmed Houston's death in a statement obtained by FOX News Digital on Monday. The musician was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.
“Our hearts are filled with pain and sadness. We have lost the matriarch of our family,” Pat said in a statement. She said her mother-in-law's contribution to music and culture was “unparalleled”.

Houston was a member of the musical group Sweet Inspirations with Doris Troy and her niece Dee Dee Warwick. This musical group provided backing vocals for Otis Redding, Lou Rawls, The Drifters, and Dionne Warwick.
