Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday stood by his decision to finish his term and run for re-election despite the continued turmoil plaguing City Hall.
“I intend to serve out my term and run for office,” Adams told reporters during his weekly briefing at City Hall.
“When both sides of this case come out, people are going to look at this whole thing that's going on,” he said, referring to the historic federal indictment that accused him of bribery and corruption. he said.
“I think my lawyers are going to present both sides,” he added.
His statement came as Manhattan federal prosecutors dropped criminal charges against Mohamed Bahi, a former top official in the Adams administration, for tampering with a witness and destroying evidence in the case against the mayor.
Mr Bahi joins a number of high-profile resignations from the government in recent weeks, the latest of which was First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, who was announced on Tuesday.
Adams emphasized that his resignation was part of normal government action and distanced himself from the federal investigation.
