Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Maj. Gen. Daniel Hagari released a short video on Wednesday explaining that Beirut's Dahieh district, where the city focuses its airstrikes, is different from other areas of the city.
In the four weeks since the Israeli Security Cabinet decided to make the safe return of the northern Israeli population to their homeland a core objective of the war after almost a year of shelling by Hezbollah, Israel has focused on two areas in particular: We have been concentrating our attacks. First, Hezbollah's stronghold in southern Lebanon. Second, Hezbollah's infrastructure in Dahiyeh.
Dahieh is a Shiite Muslim neighborhood in southern Beirut that Hezbollah has turned into a military zone, with its headquarters and bunkers beneath residential and shopping complexes. Until recently, Hezbollah also restricted people's access to and from the area and censored social media posts by local residents.
Hagari explained:
The center of Hezbollah's operations is in Dahiyeh. Dahiya is more than just a region in Lebanon. Hezbollah itself treats it lightly. de facto military base. Hezbollah has sealed off Beirut's Dahieh district and controls who comes and goes. In recent weeks, we have conducted precision airstrikes against a number of important targets there. It was in Dahieh that Hassan Nasrallah was eliminated inside Hezbollah's headquarters under a civilian building. It was at Dahieh that we destroyed a large stockpile of advanced surface-to-sea precision missiles. And it was in Dahiyeh that we destroyed weapons production facilities and attacked Hezbollah intelligence headquarters under civilian buildings. Dahieh in Beirut is a stronghold of Hezbollah.
Critics such as Al Jazeera, which was a mouthpiece for terrorists during the war, accused Israel has targeted Dahieh as part of its “massive destruction of civilian infrastructure” tactics. However, the IDF's strikes in Dahiyeh were precise, and Israel has often published maps of the intended targets and urged people to leave before attacks.
Israel wants to prove that it is not at war with the entire Lebanese people. In a video message posted on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu paid tribute to the idea of Lebanon as the “Pearl of the Middle East,” excluding Hezbollah and Iran, and calling for “one country, one flag, one He appealed to the people to become one. People” again.
