honda has recalled Approximately 1.7 million units Wednesday's announcement was due to defective parts in the steering gearboxes of various Honda and Acura models manufactured from 2022 to 2025.
The defect can result in unusual steering noise, increased steering force, or “sticky” steering, the company said. This recall affects Honda models including the 2022-25 Civic Sedan, 2023-25 Honda CR-V, 2023-2025 Acura Integra, and 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S.
The company contacted owners via email in November.
Owners of all affected models are asked to take their vehicles to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer to have the grease redistributed or added and the gear springs replaced with improved parts.
of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA began investigating this issue in March 2023. At the time, the agency noted that Honda had received 61 customer complaints from the U.S. market between September 2018 and March 2023. There were no reports of deaths or injuries related to the issue.
But NHTSA said 11 drivers lost control last year because their cars could not withstand the increased steering effort before leaving the roadway.
