Hurricane Milton raged through central Florida overnight, causing severe damage with high winds and flooding.
Damage assessments across the state affected by the hurricane began Thursday morning, but it could be some time before the full extent of Milton's economic damage becomes clear.
Florida CFO and State Fire Marshal Jimmy Patronis predicted before Milton's arrival that Florida could potentially “face an amount in excess of $10.” [billion]The insured losses from the storm are probably worth $20 billion. ”
Milton made landfall near Siesta Key late Wednesday night and “moved rapidly through central Florida overnight,” the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. The storm was a Category 3 storm when it made landfall.

In St. Petersburg, Hurricane Milton ripped off much of the roof from Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays play their home games.

Elsewhere in the city, strong winds caused a crane to fall, causing extensive damage to the building housing the Tampa Bay Times newspaper, the paper said.

Some areas in Milton's path were battling massive flooding Thursday from the hurricane's heavy rains and storm surge.

Prior to the storm's landfall, St. Lucie County was hit by tornadoes. The county government announced in a press release Thursday morning that four people were confirmed dead as a result of the tornado that struck the area.

A hurricane-related tornado also touched down in the village of Wellington, near West Palm Beach on the state's east coast, according to the report.
“Different areas of the state felt different impacts, from storm surge to wind to tornadoes to flash flooding,” Patronis said in a post on X. “Don't rush home. Trees are down, power is out, and we're on a life-saving mission.” No one's first responders are better at this than in Florida. ”

Hurricane Milton disrupts gasoline supply chain
The NHC said in a public advisory Thursday morning that Milton “continues to move away from the east coast of Florida and will pass north of the northwestern Bahamas today.”
“Milton is powerful tropical storm It is expected to gradually weaken this afternoon or evening over the next few days,” the NHC said.
