‘Charlie’s Angels’ star reveals the truth about Farrah Fawcett

Jaclyn Smith reveals what it was really like to bring 'Charlie's Angels' to life.

The actress starred opposite Farrah Fawcett and Kate Jackson in the hit 70s series about the adventures of a glamorous detective agency.

Smith claimed that even though Fawcett was the solo blonde in the group, the claws never came out after the cameras stopped rolling.

“She was a real girlfriend,” Smith told People magazine.

“She was not competitive and wanted everyone's happiness,” the 78-year-old declared. “She was the first to visit me after my first child was born. I could see her joy, because she knew it was my dream to have a child. Because I knew that, and that dream came true.

“But she was also funny,” Smith continued. “She said, 'Look, your fingers aren't fat anymore. Now you don't have to wear napkin rings on your fingers!'

Fawcett died of anal cancer in 2009 at the age of 62. She was diagnosed with the disease in 2006. Before her death, she launched the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, which raises money for cancer research and education.

Smith will co-chair the foundation's annual gala, which will be held in Dallas on October 24. Fawcett was born in Corpus Christi.

“Charlie's Angels” ended in 1981. But the memories live on, Smith told the magazine.

“It was very innocent,” Smith said. “Families and young people watched our programs. Those who watched our programs grew up with us. There are certain programs that follow and leave a mark. This is it. It was the first of its kind.”

Fawcett left Charlie's Angels in 1980. Cheryl Ladd, also blonde, was chosen by Aaron Spelling to play Fawcett's sister.

In 2021, Rudd told Fox News Digital that he initially turned down the role. But with enough convincing, she took the plunge.

“I was nervous,” Ladd admitted.

“Because that year and season was all about Farrah,” she said. “When Farrah decided to leave the show, [in 1980]I think it was very shocking for her fans and everyone who loves the show. ”

Rudd said she was determined to find a way out of the situation.

“On her first day on the job, she was wearing a T-shirt that said 'Farrah Fawcett Minor' because she was 'Farrah Fawcett Major,'” Rudd said. “Everyone laughed. I made a lot of friends right away. I went to work and wanted Chris Munro's character to be funny and quirky. I wanted her to be someone people could root for. I was very relieved when the rating was decided.'' That season went up. ”

When Rudd, 73, joined the cast of Charlie's Angels, she gained wings and a decades-long friendship. She and Smith remain best friends.

“We meet all the time,” Ladd said. “I see her every time I'm in Los Angeles. We have lunch together, we hang out, we talk on the phone all the time. We ended up becoming really good friends. Friends for life.”

“What's really interesting is that when you do something so specific and so symbolic, and you were part of it when it was huge, you can explain it to people, but until you do it, it's different. ” she continued. “I often remember how crazy that time was. We had to enter the restaurant through the back door. I wasn't prepared for how much people loved this show. It was amazing. But it was wild.”
