Former NFL running back superstar Marshawn Lynch suggested: I was thinking is running for mayor of Oakland, and California Governor Gavin Newsom (Democratic) has also supported the idea.
Lynch and Newsom proposed the idea during a podcast with his longtime agent Doug Hendrickson. The current mayor of Oakland is embroiled in scandal following an FBI search of his home and two recalls.
“That's how I'd come through there…I'd be like, 'Get everyone together,' and beat everyone up.” ”
Newsom said he has seen local polls showing Lynch is very popular among Oakland residents.
“I know information that is not public,” the Democrat said.
He said the poll found that 43% of Oakland residents had a favorable opinion of the Super Bowl champion, compared to just 7% who said they had an unfavorable opinion. When pollsters read his background to respondents, his favorability rating rose to 61%, but his unfavorability rating increased as well.
“That's out of line, brother,” Newsom added. “7% disadvantage? That has never happened to me in my life.”
Lynch joked that his behavior as mayor would be modeled after the characters in the movie “Heads of State.”
“Remember when Bernie Mac was walking down the street and he was slapping everyone?” Lynch asked. “That's how I would come through there…saying things like, 'Get everyone together,' and beating everyone up.”
Mr. Newsom cited another strong argument in support of Mr. Lynch as mayoral candidate.
“He's not asking for anything,” the Democrat said. “He has something to offer.”
Lynch was an outspoken supporter of kneeling protests for the national anthem in 2017.
