ABC’s Michael Strahan Presses Walz on Call to Abolish Electoral College

ABC News' former NFL offensive lineman Michael Strahan sat down with Kamala Harris' running mate, Tim Walz, to press the Minnesota governor on his recent statements about abolishing the electoral college.

As Breitbart News reported this week, Tim Walz called for abolishing the electoral college during a fundraiser with California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom.

“I think everyone knows that the Electoral College needs to be abolished,” Walz said at a campaign fundraiser with California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday afternoon, according to Pool reporters who were present. said. “We need a national popular vote that means something. But that's not the world we live in.”

Immediately after Walz's comments were made public, the Kamala Harris campaign distanced itself from his comments and reiterated its support for the Electoral College. When Michael Strahan asked Walz about this, he struggled to give a coherent answer.

“You said, 'I think we all know that the Electoral College needs to be abolished.' But later that night the campaign was announced and they thought it was their I said it was not my position,” Strahan said.

“Well, that's not the camp's position, and what I'm saying is that there are people who feel that every vote counts in every state. And there are people who feel that it doesn't. I think so,” Walz said.

“That's what our campaign is doing. I mean, I've been to five states in two days and I'm making a case that our campaign position is clear. “That's not their position. Their position and my position is to make sure everyone understands that their vote matters no matter what state they're in,” he added.

“So does that mean you and Vice President Harris disagree?” Strahan asked.

“I've talked about this in the past, and she's been very clear on this point. The campaign's position and my position is the campaign's position,” Walz concluded.
