Listeria monocytogenes is known to cause listeriosis, the third leading cause of food poisoning deaths in the United States. Symptoms include fatigue, muscle pain, and fever. Infections can also cause confusion, seizures, stiff shoulders, and headaches.
Meanwhile, those most at risk are the elderly, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.
To date, there are “no confirmed reports of side effects from consuming these products,” the USDA announced Wednesday.
