New York Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. spoke freely about Michael Garcia of the Kansas City Royals sliding into second base during the Yankees' 3-1 series win on Thursday. .
Garcia led off the sixth inning with a single, and the Royals' Michael Massie hit a chopper to first base. Yankees first baseman John Barty stepped on the bag and fired at shortstop Anthony Volpe, striking out Garcia at second base into a double play.
Garcia slid hard to second base and Volpe tagged him with force. Volpe hit Garcia in the neck with his right forearm while sliding.

Garcia and Volpe stood up and looked at each other for a moment. Then, as Garcia slowly walked off the field, he turned to Chisholm and began talking to the Yankees third baseman.
When that happened, chaos ensued with teams rushing out of their dugouts and bullpens rushing in from the outfield. Chisholm was stopped from the Yankees' dugout by several people.
After some tense moments, order was quickly restored and the game resumed. Chisholm was upset because he felt Garcia was trying to injure Volpe with his slide.

“I felt like he tried to run into Volpe and hurt him because he was so competitive. You know what I mean? He was talking about it a lot on Instagram, Twitter, etc. “do the same thing, but I'm different.'' I told them we wouldn't do that as a team because we didn't want to get anyone hurt if we won the game,'' Chisholm said.
Even before he came off the bench, Chisholm was booed by Royals fans after he said the Royals were “lucky” to win Game 2. At the Yankees' postgame celebration, Chisholm's teammates jokingly booed him.
Gerrit Cole was on the mound when the benches vacated, but had to be held back during the altercation.
Cole admitted, “I kept my emotions bottled up all night, but I let them out on the way to the dugout.”

Cole pitched seven innings with one run allowed. Yankees manager Aaron Boone didn't even know what happened at second base to clear the bench.
“I have no idea (what happened), to be honest,” Boone said. “It felt like I was at the game and then immediately went back to where the playoff game ended, so I haven’t even sat down and talked to the officials yet.
“Yeah, it was like we got upset on a slide or something. If we go back and show a little bit of Hal McRae and Willie Randolph, we'll all be laughing at ourselves,” Boone jokingly added. Ta. The days of fierce rivalry between the Royals and Yankees.

“Volpe took the ball and blocked the bag. Michael probably didn't care about it too much and got a little chippy,” Quatraro said.
The Yankees are currently awaiting their opponent for Game 1 of the American League Championship Series on Monday.
The Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers will play Game 5 in a winner-take-all game on Saturday.
