CBS News executives later criticized Dokoupil, but some in the news organization defended him, saying he was simply practicing journalism by asking challenging questions.
On Trevor Noah's podcast, Coates made a number of inaccurate claims about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and blamed himself for the October 7 terrorist attack, the worst genocide of Jews since the Holocaust, in which 1,200 people were killed. He added that he thought relentlessly about whether he had participated. People were killed, 250 people were kidnapped and many were brutally raped.
Noah said that all of his friends were shocked by the way Dokoupil approached him without respect.
