Giants’ Tyrone Tracy wants to prove breakout not ‘one-time thing’

What does Tyrone Tracy have in store for an encore?

With rookie receiver Malik Nabors, the Giants' offense's best weapon, out with a concussion and starting running back Devin Singletary out with a groin injury, the Giants' rookie running back was out last Sunday against the Seahawks. It was career day.

He rushed for 129 yards on 18 carries, averaging 7.2 yards per game.

This could be another big game for Tracy, as Singletary is listed as questionable for Sunday night's game against the Bengals at MetLife Stadium.

“I want to prove that this is not a one-time thing,” Tracy told the Post on Friday. “I want to go out there and prove that I can play well again. Based on the last match, I have no expectations at all. I'm going to have the same mindset no matter what opportunity I get and try to make the most of it.” .”

Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas praised Tracy's performance against Seattle.

“He knew his keys and did a good job in a tough environment not only running the ball but also defensively,” Thomas said Friday.

“He did really well and had a great game. It was like a little coming out party,” Giants receiver Darius Slayton said Friday. “But obviously this is a week-to-week league so he has a chance to come out this week and show what he can do.

“We know what type of player he is, but every game is its own game. So you never know how it's going to show up. His talent will be on display this week as it was last week. I hope it will be done.”

In injury news outside of Neighbors, punter Jamie Gillan was limited in practice with a hamstring issue on Friday, submitted to the injury report and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game.

This brings back bad memories of Giants kicker Graham Gano entering the game against Washington seemingly well, but then going lame before the game, leaving the Giants to play the game without their kicker.

They had to go for a 2-point conversion after a touchdown and lost 21-18.

It's unclear whether the Giants will bring in an emergency punter on Saturday in case Gillan's hamstring issue persists.

Coach Brian Daboll said cornerbacks Adoree Jackson (calf) and Drew Phillips (calf and shoulder) are “progressing well.”

He said the corner is “ahead” of Singletary, who is questionable and in a “gray area” in terms of availability Friday.

WR Bryce Ford Wheaton, who returned a blocked punt for a touchdown in Seattle on Sunday and missed Thursday's practice with a shoulder injury, is listed as questionable for this game.

Guard John Runyan Jr., who missed the past two days due to illness, returned to practice Friday and is scheduled to play Sunday.

DJ Davidson, who was on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant with a shoulder injury, is scheduled to play.

LB Brian Burns (groin) was limited in practice but is scheduled to play Sunday.
