Mets leave Adam Ottavino off NLCS roster as Jeff McNeil returns

LOS ANGELES — Adam Ottavino is a strange man.

The Mets added Jeff McNeil to the NLCS roster after a two-game rehabilitation period in the Arizona Fall League, and retained Luis Angel Acuña, who was retained due to his late game defense and base running.

With Ottavino out of position, the Mets decided to reduce their pitching staff to 12 players, deciding that Danny Young was more valuable than Ottavino.

Ottavino didn't pitch in the postseason as he fell down the depth chart during late-season struggles, but he was still the leader of the bullpen.

Young also didn't pitch in October, but he's the Mets' only true traditional left-handed pitcher. They also have a bulk option on David Peterson.

McNeil finally made his return after breaking his wrist after being hit by a pitch on September 6th. The Mets then declared McNeil out of the regular season, but they still had hopes for the postseason, and this loss gave McNeil enough time to recover.
