Giants, Daniel Jones completely botch chance to change woeful reputation

You may want to use your imagination.

Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles running back, returns to MetLife Stadium this Sunday…cheers from Giants fans praising his talent and class…traitors fleeing him to greener financial pastures Ridicule from Giants fans who mistakenly thought that.

Awaiting Saquon Barkley will be a team on the rise at 3-3 with rookie phenom Malik Nabors successfully recovering from concussion protocol.

One game left to lead the NFC East.

Daniel Jones had a chance to change the narrative for himself, his team and the season Sunday night against the Bengals.

His 1-14 prime time stories.

They were 1-15 after the Bengals 17 and the Giants 7.

“It's very frustrating that we couldn't get more than seven points,” Jones said.

Late in the game, with the Bengals leading 10-7 with 36 points, Jones' 2-for-4 pass over the middle to Darius Slayton was broken up by DJ Turner II. Correct call with a struggling FG kicker.

“We want to do it again,” coach Brian Daboll said.

Jones initially found himself just 14 yards away from the Giants' first touchdown at MetLife Stadium. First down.

Jones searched for the end zone at MetLife Stadium, something he hasn't had with the team this season.

And then he attempted a pass that he never should have attempted.

With B.J. Hill falling backwards in the face, Jones forced a throw that was the equivalent of a desperate Hail Mary lollipop, a painful mistake for a rookie quarterback. It was intercepted by Jermaine Pratt at the 3-yard line.

Prime Time Daniel.

“I'm just focused on winning games, playing well and winning games,” Jones said.

Daniel in the red zone.

“I'm sure he wants to get that play back,” Daboll said. “And when you get a result like that, you definitely want to call the play back.”

Yes, Daniel (22-41, 205 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 11-56 rushing) would like to get that one back.

“I tried to throw the ball out of the back of the end zone and it got hit. I should have thrown it faster or got the ball down,” Jones said.

It was his second interception since the nightmarish season opener against the Vikings.

“That's not what we want to do,” Daboll said. “You can put that on me.”

It's a great honor. For a team that can't afford mistakes, this shot proved to be a killer.

“It's hard to win games when you score seven points,” Daboll said.

Once again, the little engine that couldn't stress the Bengals defense with explosive plays. “We have to find a way to generate them,” Jones said.

With the exception of a spectacular 47-yard TD run on third-and-18 on their first possession, the Giants' defense slowed down Joe Burrow until the final two minutes when Chase Brown scored a decisive 30-yard TD. It was set. It was.

Daboll then tried to save Jones & Co. by throwing a kitchen sink at him. Daboll was hoping to find some spark, but the decision to take the game to 4-2 against NYG 38, which was trailing 7-0, seemed daunting at the start of the third quarter. It was something. Jones then had a pass over the middle broken up by Mike Hilton.

“I was happy with what we had,” Daboll said.

Daboll got lucky when Zack Moss lost a fumble to Micah McFadden. Daboll, wary of Barrow's explosive power, could not control the riverboat gambler in him. At 40 years old, it was a 4-and-2, and this time Jones pitched to dynamic rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. for a first down.

And this time, following an 18-yard PI penalty on Turner II vs. Slayton in the end zone, Tracy's 1-yard TD run resulted in the Giants' first MetLife Stadium TD of the season, tying the game at 7-7.

With help from Tracy and a third fourth-down conversion, Jones advanced the Giants into FG range, but failed to complete a third-and-5 pass over the middle to Wan Dale Robinson, before Greg Joseph ran a 47-yard left fielder. He took a shot wide. Bengals 10, Giants 7.

Jones & Company's main methods of attack are:

Two third down throws in front of the sticks…a deep shot that was too long for Slayton…a 56-yard YAC by Slayton on an RPO that was wiped out by an ineligible player downfield against Andrew Thomas…Jalin Hyatt missed two deep shots.

“Seven points is not going to get us there,” Daboll said.

The Giants are 2-4 and can't win at home (0-3). Quarterbacks can't win in prime time. Giants fans, who yearn for a team worth rooting for, deserve better.
