The Department of Justice is suing the state of Virginia, accusing it of attempting to comply with election integrity laws and exclude noncitizens and residents from their roles as voters.
The Justice Department has accused it of excluding voters too close to election day.
The U.S. Department of Justice is suing Virginia for removing voters from its voter rolls too close to Election Day. Virginia has been working to remove noncitizens and residents whose residency could not be verified after Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed an executive order aimed at election integrity earlier this year.
The complaint alleges that the State Board of Elections and Virginia Elections Commissioner Susan Beals violated the federal National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). The law is based on the following provisions that require states to complete maintenance of voter rolls at least 90 days before an election: Quiet period regulations.
The agency regularly updates the state's voter records with the state Board of Elections to remove individuals who are “identified as noncitizens” or who fail to respond to a citizenship verification request within 14 days. Governor Yonkin is accused of violating the NVRA.
…
Governor Yonkin rejected the Department of Justice's characterization of the executive order in an X post. “With less than 30 days until the election, the Biden-Harris Department of Justice has filed an unprecedented lawsuit against me and the state of Virginia for improperly enforcing a 2006 law that excluded noncitizens from voter rolls. “There is,” he wrote.
Donald Trump criticized the Justice Department, calling it “one of the greatest examples of the weaponization of the Department of Justice.”
One of the biggest examples of the weaponization of the Department of Justice is the fact that it is suing the state of Virginia to restore to the voter rolls all illegal voters who were completely exposed and removed by Governor Glenn Youngkin's significant efforts. Obviously, this was done to allow for election fraud. so sad! What happened to our once great country?
