USAID Materials Allegedly Found in Hezbollah Weapons Cache

Material labeled as belonging to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was reportedly found among weapons stockpiled by Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists at a base along the Lebanon-Israel border.

Israel has attacked, exposed and destroyed Hezbollah positions along the border, including weapons depots. These were used to attack Israeli communities and prepare for an invasion of northern Israel like the one on October 7.

A video released by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers shows a group of infantrymen surrounding a weapons stockpile. As the camera pans to the right, a box labeled “USAID” appears between a set of anti-tank missiles.

Hezbollah has used anti-tank missiles to target Israeli border areas because they fly in lower trajectories than other rockets and are harder to detect by missile defense systems. Additionally, the high altitude of the Lebanese border compared to Israeli towns makes it easier for Hezbollah to use anti-tank missiles in its attacks.

It is not clear what was inside the USAID box or why it was found among the weapons, but terrorists may be diverting USAID aid for their own purposes. Similarly, photos and videos from Gaza show Hamas weapons appearing alongside documents from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

Jerusalem-based NGO Monitor responded to evidence that USAID may have been diverted to Hezbollah in a statement:

Jonah Schiffmiller, head of research at NGO Monitor, said: “The United States must ensure that taxpayer aid is not distributed to U.S.-designated terrorists or their allies. We must ensure that United Nations agencies and humanitarian NGOs are strict with all beneficiaries, especially in areas controlled by terrorist organizations. “We must request that a thorough examination be applied.''

On October 13, 2024, a video of a Hezbollah weapons cache seized by the Israel Defense Forces in Lebanon was circulated. Among the items on display were packages bearing the logos of USAID and the United Nations' World Food Program (WFP).

NGO monitors have repeatedly warned of the dangers of aid diversion by terrorist organizations, including in Lebanon, Gaza and Yemen. In testimony before a subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee on May 17, 2024, NGO Monitor Research Director Jonah Schiffmiller said: It will not be provided to actors related to terrorism or those who glorify violence and espouse anti-Semitism. ”

USAID Office of Inspector General noticed Indeed, earlier this year, a case in which U.S. aid to a Lebanese organization extended to a Hezbollah-linked group settled a legal claim after the recipient organization falsely reported that “material aid” had not arrived. It became clear that it did. terrorist organization. The report also noted that investigations are ongoing into other “false certification” incidents involving USAID.

USAID administrator Samantha Power has a long history of anti-Israel positions. The Biden-Harris administration continues to provide aid to Lebanon, even though Hezbollah dominates Lebanon's politics and government.
