Amish family hospitalized after ingesting ‘toxic’ mushrooms

More than a dozen members of an Amish family in Pennsylvania were hospitalized Friday after eating poisonous mushrooms, according to local reports and first responders.

Emergency medical personnel at Delta Cardiff Volunteer Company Station 57 were alerted to assist in a 'mass casualty incident'.

According to Station 57, the force was notified that 11 people in Peach Bottom Township had ingested poisonous mushrooms and became ill. In a Facebook post.

Emergency crews were called in from York, Lancaster and Harford counties, the post said.

Delta Cardiff Fire Chief Laura Taylor said the adult and child were taken to WelSpan York Hospital in York in stable condition, WPMT-TV reported.

Pennsylvania State Police also responded to the residence, the department said.

Family ingests poisonous mushrooms

The incident occurred in the 200 block of Burke Road. (Delta Cardiff Volunteer Fire Department 57)

station 57 told WHP TV A family member said they found a phone booth half a mile down Burke Road to call 911. One family member said he and 10 others became ill after eating wild mushrooms they found in the forest for dinner.

Peach Bottom Township is located near the Maryland border, approximately 60 miles southeast of Pennsylvania's capital Harrisburg.
