Vice President Kamala Harris was hailed as a “tremendous servant of God” by Bishop Rosie O'Neill during her guest appearance Sunday at Koinonia Christian Center in Greenville, North Carolina. Democratic presidential candidate Harris spoke about how difficult it is to have faith in times of crisis. As an example, she talked about the recent disasters caused by Hurricanes Helen and Milton. The hurricane caused billions of dollars in damage and killed numerous Americans.
“In moments of crisis like this, it is easy to question our faith and sometimes lose it for a moment. [of] That's what we're seeing,” Harris said, before thanking the church for allowing them to worship together.
“It has a positive effect on my heart and soul,” she said of the service.
According to christian postHarris spoke about growing up learning faith and singing in the children's choir at the 23rd Street Church of God in Oakland, California.
“The Bible teaches us not to grow weary in doing good, for at the right time we will reap the harvest if we do not give up.I first encountered Galatians “It was at the 23rd Street Church of God when I was young in Oakland, California, where I sang in the children's choir and learned the teachings of the Bible for the first time,” Harris recalled.
“My earliest memories of those teachings are of a loving God who teaches us to speak up on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves, to the poor and needy.” He asked me to protect people's rights. And I learned at an early age that faith is a verb,” she continued. “That’s what we demonstrate with our actions.”
She also quoted the Rev. Amos C. Brown, who leads San Francisco's Third Baptist Church and “does justice, loves mercy, and walks humbly with our God.”
“This truth is important at any time, and especially in moments of hardship and disaster, especially in moments like these as we navigate through the storms that have caused so much damage across this country. To all: Due to Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helen, Doug and my husband, I, have you in our hearts and prayers and are thinking of everyone affected by these storms.'' Harris said.
In her message, Harris highlighted the heroism and actions of the community, especially Eddie Hannell, during the hurricane. rescued A woman caught in the floods caused by Hurricane Helen.
“Now is the time to embrace the fundamental values that reflect our country at its best, the values of compassion, community, integrity, and civility that define the people of Greenville, the people of North Carolina, and our people. It's time to stand up for our values.'' Like a fellow I met recently, his name is Eddie Hannell,'' Harris said.
“When I talked to Eddie about his courageous act, he said, 'Well, I felt like I didn't have a choice,' he said. But, of course, he had no choice. He had a choice…but his choice was to follow his conscience. In the words of Isaiah, it was a choice to be a refuge for the poor in distress, and we are all in this together. The Lord has chosen to remember that,” Harris said.
“If it's true during a terrible storm, it's true when the storm passes. It's also true in our daily lives. When Paul wrote to the church in Galatia, he wanted people to feel the burden of action. “It's good that they may feel the temptation to turn away from others when faith is needed,'' she said. .
“But Paul reminded them and us that God calls us not to grow weary in doing good, for each of us has power. God says to us: Each of us has power. [has] To make a difference. And it teaches us that the measure of our strength is revealed when we see what we can do to uplift others. ”
